What should I do with my life?
How do I find my passion?
What is my purpose?
On this page you are going to discover the most important question you must answer in your life. This question then has four sub questions that you must answer.
These are not easy questions to answer because they are going to require that you shut out all of the “noise” in your life. But you MUST answer them if you truly want to figure out what you should do with your life.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]Why Are You Stuck?[/heading]
The first thing you must get clear on is “why” are you stuck or not sure what you should do with your life?
Here’s why…
Because you have been living life by other people’s rules.
Whether it is your parents, friends, relatives, or society, you have been bouncing around like a pinball in a pinball machine doing what other people expect of you.
The keyword here is “expect”.
All too often, people make choices and live their life based upon what they think is expected of them so they go about their life doing that until they wake up one day, realize how unhappy they really are, and then go to Google and search…
What should I do with my life?
Sound familiar?
So you must be ready to take full responsibility for your life and stop doing what others expect of you and listen to your heart and do what is best for you.
When you pass on from this life and “die”, you will have two people to answer to:
You & God.
That’s it.
Are you ready to take full responsibility for your life? If so, then here is the most important question you must answer…
What do you want?
What do you really want from your life?
And to find that answer, you must answer these questions:
1. What does success mean to me?
2. What do I want my lifestyle to look like?
3. How much money do I want to make?
4. How do I want to contribute to society?
Lets explore each of these below:
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]1. What Does Success Mean To Me?[/heading]
Everyone has a different definition of what success means to them. For some people it means a lot of money, big house, and a fancy car.
For other people it means being able to spend their time raising children, traveling the world, surfing, playing golf, and so on.
For example, I have one friend who loves the thrill of running a multi-million dollar media company. He works six days a week from 7am to 7pm. The thought of laying around on the beach all day would bore him to tears.
But I have another friend who loves to surf all day so he has a simple job as a waiter in Costa Rica so that it can support his surfing lifestyle.
So the first step in this process is that you must answer the question: What does success mean to me?
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]2. What Do I Want My Lifestyle To Look Like?[/heading]
Lets assume for a moment that you sleep 7 hours a day. This means that you have 17 hours a day you are awake.
How do you want to spend those 17 hours?
What does it look like to you?
This is called Life By Design and you need to consciously decide how you want to spend your 17 hours a day. Each minute of your life MUST be put towards what you say you want.
If you waste time on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube when you should be doing other things, this is one reason why you are not getting what you want.
Your time is your money.
You must invest your time in the things you say you want. Most people who struggle with the idea of “What should I do with my life?” are wasting time on things they shouldn’t be doing.
You need to self-audit your daily schedule and look at the places where you are leaking time on things that are not aligned with what you want.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]3. How Much Money Do I Want To Make?[/heading]
This is a tough one for most people.
Why?
Because they want to make a lot of money but don’t want to work for it. This is where you are going to need to get honest with yourself and you have a few options:
- Am I okay making less money so I have time for the things I enjoy?
- Will I get my enjoyment from the work I do which also makes a lot of money?
- Am I willing to sacrifice some time now to make a lot of money so that I can have more time later for the things I truly enjoy?
As you can see, there are some tough decisions here.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]4. How Do I Want To Contribute To Society?[/heading]
Now you need to figure out what you want to do for work.
It is important to contribute to society in a meaningful way so that you feel a sense of accomplishment. This is where most people struggle with their career.
For you to feel good about your career, it must tap into your natural talents and challenge you enough so that you feel good about what you do.
You must also find the right company and people to work with. Because you will spend 8 hours a day there (half your waking life), you need to find a company that you fit with because these people will become your second family.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]Does This Overwhelm You?[/heading]
After reading this, you probably feel a bit overwhelmed because it seems like a lot of work. Want to know why you feel this way?
Because it is a lot of work.
Creating your life the way you want so that you feel fulfilled from it requires a commitment to yourself to take action every day and work your ass off. There are no magic buttons or pills that will get you there.
Personally speaking, it took me 10 years of daily practice to get my life to a point where I:
- Love my job
- Make great money
- Only work 20 hours a week
- Am in great shape
- Live where I want to live
- And spend my time doing the things I want to do
I’m not saying this to brag.
I just want you to know that I understand what you are going through, have felt the exact same thing, and discovered some specific tools along the way that helped me get to where I am now.
For over ten years now, I never wake up to an alarm clock and every day is filled with something new and exciting and I feel fulfilled because I spend my time doing the things I enjoy.
But it did not start that way.
In fact, until I was 25 years old I was that pinball bouncing around like a pinball machine until my coach asked me the BIG question:
“What do you want?”
Once I got clear on what I wanted it took me a few years to “clean house” and take action every day to finally create what I want. Now my life is on “autopilot” and I enjoy every day without having to struggle.
Yes, I do still have challenges which is a good thing.
But I do not struggle.
I don’t go to bed crying or frustrated because I hate portions of my life.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]So my question to you is this…[/heading]
Are you willing to do what it takes to create a life you love?
Are you willing to make the commitment to take action so that you can get what you want from your life?
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]You Have Two Choices…[/heading]
Option 1
You can continue on the path you are on right now…go it alone…and try and figure it out by yourself where it will take you five to ten years to go through your own process of trial and error.
There is nothing wrong with going this route. As the saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you will make you stronger”.
However this path is very frustrating.
Or…
Option 2
You can hire a Career Strategist who has already been down this path and will help you speed up the process so you can get where you want to go much faster.
[heading h=”h2″ font=””]Which do you prefer?[/heading]
Just remember that every successful athlete, actor, CEO, musician, politician, author, etc…all hire coaches and mentors to help them. In fact, many of them hire multiple coaches.
Whatever choices you make today will affect where you will be in your life two to five years from now because it takes that long for you to see the results of your choices and actions.
Would you like me to help you accomplish your goals much faster?
