Are you wondering…
- How do I get motivated to go to work?
- How do I stay motivated at work?
- I have no motivation to work anymore
- How do you get motivated when depressed?
If so, here are some simple tips you can use right now.
START HERE
The most important thing you need to understand about how motivation works is this:
You will always move towards what you define as being more “pleasurable” and…
You will always move away towards what you define as being more “painful”.
The keyword here is define.
The way human psychology works is that once we create a set of beliefs about what we like and don’t like (or agree with or don’t agree with), they run on autopilot.
When you entered into this world, you have been making decisions each day about what you define as being pleasurable and define as being painful.
Once you make those decisions, you file them away and move along your life and everything you come upon in life gets filtered through those beliefs and they become habits.
For example…
You never need to “find” motivation to eat your favorite foods or watch your favorite shows.
At some point you made the decision that you loved those things and now you are always automatically going to do those things habitually without hesitation or even thinking about it.
They run on autopilot and you don’t have to “find motivation” to do them.
So if you are not motivated to work right now it’s because you have defined that as being more “painful” than “pleasurable”.
And this…
“What you resist persists” – Carl Jung
What this quote basically means is that anything you avoid or put off will just get bigger and louder.
You cannot avoid life.
You cannot avoid your self.
You cannot avoid personal responsibility.
If something is there, it is there for a reason.
It is there to send you a signal and say, “Hey, you need to look at this and do something about it.”
You must face it otherwise the issue will just continue to cause you pain.
What many people fail to realize is that any challenge that presents itself in your life is there to serve you as an opportunity to learn and grow.
However, if you avoid the issue by procrastinating, it becomes your burden.
So stop avoiding your responsibilities, step up and face them, and become the better version of yourself now.

How to get motivated to go to work?
If you have lost your motivation to go to work, then this could be because either:
A. You hate your job
B. You are bored of your job
C. You like your job but feel kinda blah
Lets take a look at each one:
A. You hate your job
If this is the case, good!
Your soul is telling you it’s time to do something else.
Now the question you need to answer is this:
- Do I like my career and hate the company I am working for?
Or,
- Do I hate my career and want to start something new?
If you like your career but don’t like the company, stop being lazy and start looking for a new company to work with.
Finding the right company is so important because you want to work with great people, in a healthy environment, where you are appreciated for what you do.
All too often people like their job but just don’t like the company they are at.
Or, if you just want to start over and need helping figuring out what you should do, then check out this article on what should I do with my life? It has sections on finding your purpose, your passion, how to change your life, and a career test.
B. You are bored of your job
If you are bored of your current job and it does not excite you but you still enjoy your career, you have two options:
1. Find a new company to work with that will allow you to expand your capabilities so you don’t get bored
Or,
2. Approach your current job with a new mindset
Number one is self explanatory.
As for number two, here’s the deal…
Sometimes work is work.
It’s not going to be exciting and glamorous every day.
Even athletes, famous performers, and people who have their “dream job” have to do tedious mundane tasks.
Do you know how often athletes and performers practice over and over again the same little exercises so they can perfect their craft?
Nobody ever sees what athletes and performers do behind the curtains to prepare.
It’s repetitive and boring.
But that’s what it’s supposed to be.
So if you are feeling like you are tired with what you are doing, sometimes you just need to change “how” you are doing it.
You need to change your “perspective” and find the “art” in your craft. Otherwise it does not matter what job you get, it too will eventually become boring.
And, something else you need to ask yourself is this:
Is your job a j-o-b?
Or is it a “career”?
Because when you have a career, you love the details.
You will work tirelessly and never get bored.
But if you have a j-o-b where it’s only purpose is to pay the bills, you are in big trouble because you will always get bored and lose motivation.
If this is you…wake up and take control of you life!
C. You like your job but feel kinda blah
If you are waking up in the morning and just not “feeling it”, here are some simple things you can do:
1. Move Your Body
You just slept for six to eight hours.
Do some jumping jacks, yoga, or take a walk.
Sometimes you just need to move the body and kickstart it.
2. Establish A Positive Morning Ritual
How you start your day is crucial as it sets the tone.
Listen to inspiring audio or do something positive.
One thing that always helps is reading motivational and inspirational quotes.
You should do something for at least twenty to thirty minutes that fills you up with good energy.
3. Eat A Healthy & Light Breakfast
These days, there are many people who swear by intermittent fasting and using bulletproof coffee as their breakfast.
Basically they don’t eat, have coffee with coconut oil in it.
For many people, this helps kick start their day so they don’t feel weighed down by a heavy breakfast and the coconut oil allows the caffeine to slowly absorb into the body so it does not shock the body.
But if you do decide to eat, make sure you have something light so you don’t feel heavy.
4. Do Some Breathing Exercises
The reason cardio is so good in the morning is because it gets you breathing deeply.
Bringing large amounts of oxygen into the body is extremely beneficial.
In the yoga community, many start their day with “breath of fire” where it is a heavy panting (in out) breathing exercise.
Search Google for “morning breathing exercises” and find one you like (but some form of cardio is still better)
5. Address The Anxiety
Sometimes we don’t want to go to work in the morning because there is something that is causing anxiety.
For example:
- I have a project that is due that I don’t want to do
- I hate sitting in traffic
- I don’t want to deal with “this” person
Whatever the reason is, it’s causing anxiety and you need to address it!
All you need to do is:
Step 1 – Be honest with yourself
Step 2 – Write down the reason
Step 3 – Look at it
Step 4 – Ask yourself this question
What is the best way for me to solve this challenge?
Continue with your day and let the solution come. It may take a few minutes or a few days.
It will come.
The key here is that now you are facing your anxiety.
Whatever you do, don’t run from it.
Find a creating and constructive way to solve it.
